Vanderbilt University (B.A. in Cultural Anthropology & English Literature with a Minor in Cinema and Media Arts)
University of Cambridge (MPhil in Social Anthropology)
Teaching Experience:
Gloria started teaching in high school, where she worked with students to improve their SAT scores. In college, she regularly volunteered at an after-school program for Chinese immigrant students, teaching English as a second language. Most recently, Gloria spent a summer in Cairo, Egypt as a volunteer English and Math teacher for Sudanese refugee students in elementary school. Working with students from all over the world and with diverse backgrounds has allowed her to better understand how to cater to the unique needs of each student and ensure they have a comfortable and engaging learning experience.
Educational Philosophy:
"Learning should be fun! Many students' educational careers span almost two decades, starting from primary school to college graduation. With so much time spent learning, it should be something to look forward to. As a teacher, I am committed to creating a learning environment where students are excited to expand their knowledge, prepare for the future, and explore their passions."
Counseling Experience:
While pursuing her undergraduate and graduate degrees, Gloria worked as a college/AP essay editor and advisor. She has worked with over 100 students applying to universities, with a special focus on international applicants. From supporting initial ideation to polishing the final details, Gloria has played a significant role in helping students gain admission to their top choice universities.
Counseling Philosophy:
“The college applications process can be incredibly challenging and stressful. My priority is to support my students both academically and emotionally, as a confident attitude allows their best selves to come forward in their applications. I look forward to engaging with students and encouraging their applications to take on an authentic voice.”
Interesting Fact:
Gloria loves to travel and has visited nine different countries in just this past year. Out of everywhere she has visited, one of her favorite trips was to Morocco, where she spent five days riding camels, visiting waterfalls, and camping in the Sahara desert.
