Math/Science Instructor
Education:
Bowdoin College (Asian Studies, B.A.)
University of Texas at Austin (Global Policy Studies, M.A.)
Teaching Experience:
As an undergraduate, Gerlin worked as an AmericaReads and Counts tutor in local public school classrooms, helping students one-on-one as well as incorporating the use of media and technology to supplement classroom content. She has also taught English and Mandarin Chinese to students ranging from kindergarten to senior citizens in Japan.
Educational Philosophy:
"Learning how to learn and how to ask question is more important than the learning itself!"
Counseling Experience:
Gerlin started her college counseling experience as a peer mentor for other QuestBridge applicants in college. She later worked as an intern at QuestBridge headquarters during her undergraduate time. Gerlin also evaluated and reviewed domestic and international applications for Bowdoin College during her time there as an Admissions Counselor before joining B2A. She has enjoyed being on the other side of admissions by working directly with students to encourage them to find their voice and goals through the application process.
Counseling Philosophy:
"There is no single right choice for everyone. Finding the college/university that is right for you is just as important as the application you prepare. Think of it as a two-way exchange: what can the college offer me and what can I offer them?"
Interesting Fact:
In college, Gerlin spent a year studying abroad in Japan, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. Her life dream is to own a farm-to-table cafe and farm drawing from her experiences worldwide.
