Key Insights from the First Round of College Decisions
As we near the end of the 2025-26 admissions cycle, it’s time to review results from the early application rounds and analyze the data that’s available so far. The Class of 2030 continued to break records with an astonishing number of applications to a wide array of schools. Similarly, we saw a continuing trend of dropping acceptance rates, with almost every school becoming more competitive. Overall, the data shows only slight variations in the patterns we’ve seen for the past several years.
In today’s post, we’ll share all available early admissions results from top schools along with our analysis and what students can do with these results in mind. Let’s dive in!

After numerous executive orders were announced last spring (covered in this blog post), the college admissions landscape anticipated a potential shake up. With the comprehensive ban on affirmative action and other policy changes, it was a possibility that schools might report higher acceptance rates or some variability in admissions results due to factors like cost and accessibility. However, based on early results, trends from the past few admissions cycles have continued: plummeting acceptance rates, record-breaking application numbers, and an increasingly competitive application process to more schools beyond the Ivy Leagues.
From these results, we can also observe that fewer and fewer schools are reporting admissions data after soon decisions are released. We can attribute this withholding of information to the statements from schools that emphasize their hopes that colleges will seem attainable, and highlight their incoming classes with data apart acceptance rates. We’ve covered the history of this trend and what it could mean for future admissions cycles in last year’s early admissions results post.
What can you do with this information?
Rising juniors must take steps now to identify and address weaknesses within their profiles. Part of this means creating a detailed plan for summer and fall to ensure they work toward their goals and meet all upcoming deadlines. If you’re part of the Class of 2027, use the steps below as a starting point to preparing for college applications:
1. Focus on your academic performance this spring to maximize your rank, GPA, and test scores
Rank and GPA are extremely important factors in your application. Whether you need to maintain your current grades or have room for improvement, plan to make academics a top priority for the rest of this semester. Remember that your GPA at the end of junior year is what you apply with, so finish strong and give yourself the best chance possible! To round out your academic profile, make sure you’re also preparing for AP/IB exams in May and working to secure your SAT/ACT score if you haven’t already.
2. Make use of your summer to add to your extracurricular profile
Just like junior year is the most important academically, the summer before senior year is the most important time to showcase your extracurricular involvement and initiative. Look for ways to fill gaps in your resume or opportunities to deepen your volunteering, research, independent project, or summer program experiences. The deadlines for many summer programs and some volunteering opportunities are quickly approaching, so make plans now to finalize your summer commitments and maximize your impact.
3. Seek professional guidance for your college applications
The college application process is becoming increasingly overwhelming. To mitigate anxiety and ensure you submit the strongest applications possible, do in-depth research to find the best professional application support for you.
