College Admissions Tips for Accepted, Rejected, and Waitlisted Students

Have you been checking your mailbox more frequently? Are you tearing open envelopes with an unusual intensity?

You must be a high school senior waiting for college Regular Decision notifications.

Since the middle of March, colleges have been sending notification letters on the status of Regular Decision applicants.

In most cases, there are three options that you can expect to see:

  1. Accepted. Yay!

  2. Rejected. Sad!

  3. Waitlisted. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There’s a best way to approach each of these types of notifications, but generally you should take all college admissions decisions with a grain of salt.

Regardless of failure or success, realize that many factors go into an acceptance, many of which are simply out of your control.

Also, you should give yourself enough time to come up with the best choice school to actually attend.

Don’t fall into traps like prestige or location. Review all the factors -- classes, professors, financial aid packages -- with a new mindset.
