Sarah De La Torre
Head College Admissions Counselor
English/Language Arts Instructor

Education:

University of California at Santa Cruz (Political Science, B.A)

University of Texas at Austin (Language & Literacy Studies, M.Ed.)

Counseling Experience:

Before starting graduate school, Sarah advised students in an intensive college prep program for two years in Beijing, China. She helped students research potential schools and navigate the college admissions process.

Counseling Philosophy:

"If you are a prospective student, think about what you want to get out of your college experience. Consider campus type, academics, student life, career services and funding options.  Starting the next step of your academic career can be overwhelming, but naming what it is you’re looking for can help narrow down your list of potential schools and find the right fit."

Teaching Experience:

As a certified English and ESL instructor with over seven years of teaching experience, Sarah has worked with students in the US and abroad to deepen their literacies and become confident writers. Writing allows you to learn about who you are, and discover who you want to be.  The college admissions essay is an opportunity for you to envision how your future school fits into that narrative.

Educational Philosophy:

"Writing is a journey, and it can take several tries for students to articulate their message.  My role as a tutor is to guide each student to discover their authentic voice to best brand their application and give a full picture of their unique talents and capabilities."

Interesting Fact:

An avid traveler & hiker in free time, Sarah says her “backpack is always ready for the next adventure.”  Last summer she traveled to Peru and completed the 26-mile Inca Trail to Machu Picchu!
