Elite College Acceptance Rates Dropping

Ah, springtime. The season of fresh flowers, increasing temperatures, and, for some lucky high school seniors, admission to the colleges of their dreams.

But this year, more students than ever will be left disappointed as acceptance rates continue to plummet at top universities across the nation.

Take Harvard, for example: last year, the storied university had an acceptance rate of 4.6%. But this year saw that rate drop even lower, to just 4.5%. Sure, it may seem like a minor decrease. But when we're looking at rates that are already so low, even something like .1% can make the difference between attending Harvard and having to look at your backup options.

Across the country, elite schools followed similar patters.

Admissions at Yale dropped even more: from 6.31% last year to 5.91% this year. (Can you believe we're talking about an acceptance rate of just over 6% last year as though that was high? Yikes!)

Your chances at Rice, the top-ranked school in the state, dropped dramatically this year, from 11% to just 8.7%.

The University of Chicago, another popular choice, went from 7.2% to 5.9%.

When it comes to elite colleges, you need every chance you can get, and now those chances are dwindling one percentage point at a time. In fact, it seems that just about every prestigious private college saw record-low acceptance rates for the class of 2023.

But don't despair! These lower admission rates don't mean you should give up on your dream school. It just means you'll need to work harder to stand out.

It's true. You're more likely to be admitted to each and every one of these schools if you have not only outstanding test scores and a high class rank, but also an admissions package that shows who you truly are.

There may be more applicants than ever at these colleges, but there's only one you. Now's the time, especially if you are a junior, to start thinking how to present yourself to admissions officers.

Don't be a faded decimal. Be a dream come true.
