Kalyn volunteered as a Career Associate in college conducting resume editing and coaching. After graduation, Kalyn served her alma mater as an Assistant Director in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and McCombs Admissions to support the recruitment and review of the next two incoming freshmen classes. In addition, Kalyn recently assessed and scored admissions applications for the the University of Texas at Austin.
"Applying to colleges can be a daunting task. By navigating applications together, I strive to simplify the process for students and learn about their individual passions and ambitions. I enjoy building relationships with students to help them identify how their uniqueness will contribute to their choice university and make them a competitive candidate."
Kalyn began teaching by mentoring young students through programs such as Best Buddies, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and SOHO - Space of Her Own. She also interned with the education department of the Taubman Museum and coordinated teaching residencies for a North Carolina nonprofit. Additionally, Kalyn taught science and art lessons at the Congressional School in Virginia.
"A healthy dose of curiosity goes a long way to fuel the mind and spark inquisitive thinking. I believe students should view their educational journey as an exciting opportunity to explore themselves and the world around them. For me, learning is an interactive and multi-faceted process best approached from creative angles."
In between moving from Washington DC to Austin, Kalyn worked remotely as an independent consultant for a year-and-a-half so she could travel around the country and live in a different city every 4-8 weeks.
